Steps to follow:
1. Make sure you have a clear understanding of what the article is about. Identify the main idea or topic. To identify the main idea you should ask yourself, why was this article written? 2. To start a summary you need to write a thesis statement; this is usually the first sentence of your introductory paragraph. 3. You need to read well the first paragraph of the article since it usually contains the most importan information. 4. Then follow the outline of the article paragraph by paragraph. Identify the main arguments. 5. Do not use "I" or "we", write from the third-person point of view. 6. Do not plagiarize! Don't use the same words as in the text. rewrite the main ideas in your own words! 7. make sure you are using complete sentences with good transition words! 8. You may need to leave some unimportant details out. 9. Your summary should be as short and concise as possible! 10. Give your summary a reread and edit out any obvious mistakes! |
